AL!VE has been busy putting together some great programming for all our members.  We hope that you engage with us through the many opportunities we have posed to you throughout the last couple of months, and we look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming conferences!  If you are planning on attending the National Conference on Volunteering & Service this June in Atlanta, please attend our happy hour! We would love to network with you and see how AL!VE can continue to support your professional development. Check out the newsletter for more details, as well as some awesome upcoming webinars with some of our partners. Hopefully we will connect with you soon!

All my best,
Jason

UPDATE: By-Laws Changes

The AL!VE Board of Directors proposed three bylaw changes which need to be voted on by the AL!VE membership by March 31st, 2018.

Unfortunately, the proposed revisions did not pass, so we will continue to operate under our 2010 bylaws. Thank you to those who voted.

Additionally we’d like to thank Past President Beth Whitmire for managing the revision and voting process. We will try to have another vote later this year.

Celebrate National Volunteer Week!

April 15th - 21st, 2018

Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week. Plan or attend an event to celebrate the impact of volunteers in your community, and inspire others to serve.

National Volunteer Week, brought to you by Points of Light, is an opportunity to recognize and thank volunteers who lend their time, talent, voice and support to causes they care about in their community. Their stories can serve to inspire others to find ways to take action that creates change.

Are you ready to celebrate your volunteers?

Check out Points of Light website for ideas and marketing materials.

Engaging Volunteers from Diverse and Immigrant Communities

AL!VE & MAVA Partner Webinar

Engaging Volunteers from Diverse and Immigrant Communities
Tuesday, May 8th, 2018
9am (PST) / Noon (EST)
Cost: $20 (AL!VE & MAVA members) / $35 (non-members)

Many nonprofit and government organizations struggle to engage a volunteer pool that reflects the  racial and ethnic diversity of the communities they serve. For the past year, the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) has embarked on an initiative aimed at learning why this problem exists and identifying practical solutions to help civic-minded programs recruit and retain volunteers from diverse communities. Please join MAVA and AL!VE for a co-hosted webinar presenting 8 research-based strategies for creating a more inclusive volunteer program at your organization.

To register, click here.

P.S.: DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE MAVA CONFERENCE IN JUNE!

MAVA Conference
June 6th-8th, 2018 (St. Paul, MN)

A Note from MAVA Conference Chair Garrett Zaffke:
Our committee has been working very hard to bring you a compelling and fun summer event of networking and learning with some of the brightest minds in the industry. We have some great speakers from around the world who will be highlighting this event as well as a Major League Baseball game and good BBQ. We also will be showing a highly anticipated performance by T2PT, a wonderful improv comedy act that loves to poke fun at public policy. Boy, sounds like a picturesque summer indeed.

But you are not attending the conference just for the atmosphere; you are looking to develop yourself, to take the next step and unlock the doors of opportunity that await you. The 2018 MAVA’s Conference is a great investment on yourself and your organization to do just that. You will be able to grow in your strengths, find new ways of doing the same old thing, hear about and discuss the most current issues and topics, as well as network and build lasting partnerships and friendships with your peers.

Registration is open for the conference; we would love to have you join us.  Whether you are a seasoned veteran or new to the field, there is something for everyone at the 2018 MAVA Conference. So go on and take your next step with us!

Conflict Management Addressed in Latest Issue of IJOVA

How do you resolve conflict within volunteer programs?

In the latest issue of the International Journal of Volunteer Administration (IJOVA) , Washington State University Extension implemented a system to handle just that, identifying what conflict is, how it should be addressed and next steps for the future. Properly managed volunteer conflict in these volunteer programs has had a positive impact on the organization's image, the ability to achieve programmatic outcomes, recruitment and retention of volunteers, and ultimately fulfilling the mission of the organization.

IJOVA is now an open-sourced resource for volunteer engagement professionals. Current as well as all past issues are now available on AL!VE’s website.

Click here to view all journals from IJOVA on our website.
